Specialist Dyslexia Assessments
Full diagnostic dyslexia assessments for learners aged 8 to adult — with reports recognised by schools, colleges, universities and employers across the UK.
Confidence • Independence • Opportunity
A dyslexia assessment can be a turning point for a learner who is struggling — giving them answers, strategies, and recommending support in school. Learners leave knowing they are not 'slow' or 'unmotivated' — they simply learn differently.
A thorough, child-friendly assessment that builds a full picture of your child's learning strengths and areas of difficulty.
Practical approaches for reading, spelling, note-taking and revision — tailored to your child's specific learning profile.
A clear, detailed report your school can act on.
A dedicated session to walk parents through the results, explain next steps, and answer questions about supporting your child at home and school.
A full diagnostic assessment gives you a clear picture of how you learn — and unlocks the right support at college, university, and beyond.
Assessments take place in a calm, welcoming environment at Seven Dials in Brighton. Online sessions are also available where suitable.
Tailored reports recommending exam access arrangements and university support — written to be understood by you, your tutors and your institution.
Advice on what to expect from university support services, Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), and practical strategies to build your confidence and independence — not just a report, but ongoing guidance.
I bring years of specialist experience across secondary, further and higher education — and a genuine commitment to every learner I work with.

Dyslexia can look different at different ages. Common signs include difficulties with reading, spelling, writing, memory, processing speed or organisation. If difficulties persist despite appropriate support, further investigation may be helpful.
Of course. You are welcome to get in touch to discuss your concerns and ask questions before deciding whether an assessment is the right step.
I assess learners from age 8 upwards. This is generally the youngest age at which a reliable full diagnostic assessment can be completed. If your child is younger, I am happy to discuss whether an assessment is appropriate and to recommend alternative support in the meantime.
When you arrive, I will explain how the session will run and answer any questions before we begin. The assessment involves a series of structured tasks covering reading, spelling, writing, memory and processing — all presented in a calm, relaxed way. The full assessment typically takes 2–3 hours, with breaks and refreshments as needed — it is not a test you can pass or fail.
For children, I keep the tasks engaging and age-appropriate. For adults, the session is conversational and collaborative throughout.
You will receive a full written report explaining the findings in plain language, with specific recommendations for school, college, university, the workplace, or home. I also offer a follow-up conversation to walk you through the results and answer any questions you have.
You will usually receive confirmation of the assessment outcome within the following week, subject to availability. The full written report will then follow within 14 days.
Reports are written in line with national guidelines from the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) and are recognised by schools, colleges and universities. Educational settings must consider reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010; they are not required to implement every recommendation but to consider what is appropriate and reasonable within their setting and resources.
No. Exam access arrangements are decided by the school or college no earlier than Year 9. They are based on evidence of need and the child's normal way of working. However, a full dyslexia assessment can provide useful evidence and help guide discussions with the school.
Yes. Current regulations do not place a time limit on the validity of a full dyslexia report. This means a report written at any age is valid at university — no top-up report is required. A full assessment can also be used to support an application for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) provides support for university students with a full dyslexia assessment. This can include 30–60 hours of 1-to-1 mentoring or study skills tuition, a laptop, specialist software and equipment, and funding towards printing and photocopying.
DSA applications take around 12 weeks to process. Universities recommend completing a full dyslexia assessment 3–4 months before starting university so the right support can be put in place from day one.
Not currently. All assessments are carried out face-to-face at my office in Seven Dials, Brighton.
Yes. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and complete regular safeguarding training.
Schools and colleges may offer screening but are unlikely to fund a full dyslexia assessment. Many schools prioritise intervention because support can be provided without formal identification. Some universities will contribute towards a full assessment after the student is enrolled in the first term. Waiting times can be lengthy.
Get in touch by email to arrange a date and time that works for you. I'll confirm your appointment and send everything you need to prepare. Payment is by BACS bank transfer ahead of the assessment.
